Ambassador Program
May 17th 2023 by Karyn Walsh, Vice President, Giants Basketball Club

The Giants Commitee would like to announce our exciting new initiative -the Giants Development and Ambassador program.

This Program has been put into place to assist the development of our Giants players and to support our Giants coaches.

The aim is to concentrate on the development of sound foundation skills in our novice Giants, with progression into aspects such as decision making and advanced skills in our experienced Giants, whilst also assisting our coach’s knowledge base and confidence with training drills in these areas.

We are very pleased to announce Jake Jacobs as our Development Coordinator and Caleb Power as our Club Ambassador.

Jake and Caleb will serve as mentors to all our Giants players, personifying our Giants ethos of hard work, teamwork, sportsmanship, resilience, and inclusiveness.

Jake and Caleb will run a weekly hour skills session, where teams and their coaches will be invited to attend on a rotational basis; they will coordinate junior and senior skills camps in school holidays and try to visit teams on game day over the season to sit on the team bench to inspire and assist.

Up to three teams of similar age and skill level will be invited per session.

At this stage u8 to u14 will be at Bouncers on Mondays 450pm – 550pm;

U/16 and u/18 will be at Joseph Banks Secondary College on Mondays 7pm-8pm

( invites will work in with byes and fixtures)

Teams may opt out – but please inform the club asap, so we can substitute interested teams into the program. Teams who wish to attend more sessions will be placed on a standby list to fill in as teams opt out.

Coaches are invited to attend as many development sessions as possible, in the hope that they can take back what they learn from Jake and Caleb and pass it on to their players.

We hope our players and coaches will support this new initiative, attend their allocated sessions, work together, be on their best behaviour, work hard, learn lots and have fun!

Player’s please wear your Giants game jersey or merchandise to the session and remember to bring your correct sized ball and drink bottle.

Coaches, please wear your Coach polo and get involved in the session. We ask that you RSVP your team invitation asap with attending team numbers and anything you would like included in your session.

Photos / video of sessions will be posted on our private fb group and club publication- if any child does not wish to be in photos, please let Jake and Caleb know on the day.

We will be running development camps free to our Giants players in the July school holidays.

U16 and u18 on Thursday 6/7/23

U8 to u14 on Thursday 14/7/23 so save the date!

We are also asking for volunteer coaches to assist sessions so please keep these dates in mind.

We hope everyone gets behind this program and learns something with each session and that it fosters club spirit and community.
